Biography
Born Morpeth.Taught by his father to draw from memory and studied in Paris under Aime Morot. Renown for his watercolour paintings of horses, dogs, animals and birds. His technique of rapid wash drawings has often been compared to Oriental calligraphic art.
A lifelong horseman and a keen huntsman he had an intimate knowledge of animals and birds and depicted them frequently in gouache on linen.
One of the most individual and highly talented artists Scotland has produced.
