Biography
Born in Glasgow and trained as a lawyer until his love of art and meetingts with Sir Daniel MacNee led him to devlop his artistic talent. He began painting stage scenery and moved to London to work at the Queens theatre. He was to become the art master to Queen Victoria, which continued for over 20 years, visiting Balmoral, Osborne and Windsor. He received Royal annuity and after his death the Queen acquired more of his works for her collection.
