Biography
Born in Glasgow and painted mostly in oil and watercolour. His subjects were usually landscapes, seascapes and the occasional portrait. For his landscapes he often used the North East coast of Scotland, in particular fishing villages and cliffs. He became a regular exhibitor at the French Salon, winning medals in 1899 and 1900. The French Impresssionists were hugely influential on his style and technique and in 1934 he was commissioned to paint a portrait of Lloyd George.
