Biography

Rowlandson is perhaps the most famous draughtsman, etcher and aquatint engraver of political and social satire, known not least for his very colourful personality alongside his many works. He is said to have gambled away most of his earnings as well as inheritances but in his time he did exceedingly well with single plates, sets of sporting prints and book illustrations mainly done for the publishers S.W. Fores, R. Ackermann and T. Tegg. He lived and worked in London.
