Biography
John Forgan was born and raised in Linlithgow, about 17 miles from Edinburgh. In his childhood he was constantly drawing and painting but did not choose to undergo formal artistic training at art college. In the early 1970's, whilst training in Holland for the Winter Olympics, John studied and learned the basics of his art, which provided him with an in depth knowledge of techniques, materials and different media. His work over the years has covered a wide range of styles - from small ink drawings to oils, though more recently he has worked predominantly in watercolour.
In this, his 'Mile in Edinburgh' exhibition with the Anthony Woodd Gallery, John focuses on the subjects that have provided him with most of his inspiration over the years - the town and cityscapes of Edinburgh and the Lothians and coastal scenes of the many fishing villages of Fife and East Lothian.
His work is in public and private collections throughout the world, including Storehouse Group, the Savoy Group, the Daily Telegraph and The Royal Bank of Scotland.
