Son of Gourlay Steell. Painter in oil and watercolour of birds and animals. David Steell studied at the Mound School of Art and began exhibiting at the Royal Scottish Academy in 1873 and continued annually. He worked very much in the manner of his father, depicting many animals in their natural surroundings.
