BROWN, Alexander Kellock, RSA RSW RI (1849-1922)
Biography
Born Edinburgh, died Arran. Oil and watercolour painter – landscape and flowers. Glasgow School of Art. Brother of Kellock Brown. His works were almost exclusively of Scottish scenes, the only important exception being the ‘Temple of Comoriba, Egypt’, exhibited in 1879. In common with many of his contemporaries including Waller Hugh Paton, he loved the landscape of Arran although he was associated with Glasgow for the most of his life. Influence of James Docharty apparent in his development of ‘wet’ broad brushstrokes when using watercolour. Exhibited RA, RSW, ARSA, RSA to name but a few.
